Prayer Shawl Ministry
No doubt you have seen the baskets in the back of the sanctuary filled with lovely knitted and crocheted shawls. The colors change weekly as new ones are added and others go to new homes. But, have you wondered where they go and who is filling the basket?
NBPC is blessed to have a Prayer Shawl Ministry through Dorcas Circle. The website www.shawlministry.com says that, “Compassion and the love of knitting/crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every stitch.”
Women of NBPC have been stitching away since 2005. Meeting every 1st and 3rd Monday at 10 am in the Parlor, experienced and novice knitters and crocheters work on projects galore. Hands are ready to guide you through the process of casting on, casting off, and everything in between.
Group member Ann Rider (pictured above) keeps a loose list of who makes prayers shawls and who receives them. The shawls may be given to those undergoing medical procedures, facing loss, experiencing stress, or during illness and recovery, as well as times of celebration like weddings, graduations, births, and baptisms. Please let Ann or the office know if you take one to give so that duplicates may be avoided.

"Shawls ... made for centuries universal and embracing,
symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God.
They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace,
mother, hug, shelter and beautify.
Those who have received these shawls have been
uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to
fly above their troubles..."
